Minister of Culture
Jakob Engel-Schmidt:
“Denmark has a huge strategic interest in hosting strong film and TV productions. I think it’s absolutely absurd that a series like ‘Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow’, which is set in Greenland and Denmark, was filmed in Latvia, Lithuania, and Iceland — all of which have production rebate schemes. It’s a waste of jobs, of the Danish storytelling tradition, and of showcasing our fantastic Kingdom. That is why I am proud that we are now taking a major step toward making Denmark a European powerhouse for film and TV production. And who knows — perhaps the next version of the hit series Emily in Pariswill involve the main character moving to Copenhagen?”
The Minister for Cities and Rural Districts Morten Dahlin:
“Film and TV productions help showcase Denmark abroad, enabling us to attract even more tourism and revenue to the entire country. Therefore, it is extremely good news — both for Danish film and TV production and for Danish tourism — that we can now introduce a rebate for productions filmed in Denmark.”
Helle Bonnesen, Conservative Party spokesperson on business affairs:
“Now James Bond can come to Nordhavn! Finally, the film industry is at long last getting a production rebate. It is crucial for ensuring that the proud traditions of Danish cinema can continue and that the industry receives a much-needed helping hand.”
Torsten Jakobsen, Consultant at M2 Animation:
“But the Danish industry — perhaps precisely because we have not had production rebates — punches above its weight and has learned to work more efficiently.
So even with a 25% rebate, we are still well able to compete with foreign companies,” emphasizes Torsten, who has previously also been on the client side as a director at LEGO.
